Sophia Martin

Owner/Head Trainer

Sophia has been professionally trained and has a formal education in dog behavior and behavior modification.  She studied at Highland Canine Training for six months and did well in the program.

Sophia has owned and bred Border Collies since 2013.  She competed in AKC agility and 4-H events with her dogs.  Ever since Sophia was young, she has loved animals.

Sophia enjoys riding her horses, spending time with friends and family, and watching movies in her free time.  Although she loves them all, Sophia's favorite dog breed is the Border Collie.

Digging Deeper

Sophia, our owner and head trainer, has loved and been passionate about a handful of things from a very young age. Her priorities list includes friends, family, animals (especially dogs and horses), and most importantly, God. God and her love for dogs have been the two voices that drive nearly all her decisions. She has been an active member of her church family.

Sophia got her first Border Collie, Ruby when she was just ten.  Ruby and Sophia go everywhere together.  They have met hundreds of people and had the opportunity to reflect God's love everywhere they go.  Sophia has used Ruby to connect with lots of people.  Ruby has been a conversation starter and a relationship builder from day one. "Without Ruby, I know without a shadow of a doubt I would not be the person I am today.  I also know I would never have become a dog trainer if it hadn't been for that hardheaded, red-merle Border Collie," says Sophia.

Ruby and Sophia grew together, and when Ruby came of age, Sophia decided to breed Ruby and start her puppy-raising business adventure. This led to even more connections made and memories experienced. By 2021, Sophia owned six of her Border Collies, raised 50+ puppies, and met hundreds of outstanding breeders, trainers, and border collie lovers.

"The last eight years of my life have been full of ups and downs.  I have learned so much.  Everything that 'I' have done has not even been my own doing.  I give all glory to God and couldn't have done any of it without him.  God drives everything I have, am, and will ever do.  Everything is centered around God, my personal and business life.  Because to me, they are the same life.  You will get the same Sophia that you get at work, at church, and in the comfort of my own home.  What you see is what you get." (Martin, October 23, 2021)

Sophia strives to keep her business God-centered. She gives everything to God, even though her business mission statement is "Caspian Canine works to change the lives, one family, at a time by turning the unmanageable dog into the unimaginable dog." Sophia also has a personal goal to improve the lives of everyone God puts in her life for God's glory.

Our Brand

In September 2021, Sophia started to buckle down and prepare to open her business as soon as she graduated.  She would go to school every day and work hard to soak up all the information she could.  On her breaks and after school, she would spend time planning for her business' launch in January 2021.  One thing that has always been very important to Sophia is to have a brand that means something.  For months, Sophia spent time thinking of a name and brand that suited her beliefs and philosophy.  After thinking over a name, Sophia stumbled across a word that made her think twice: Caspian.
For those who don't know, the Caspian Sea is extensive. It is the largest inland body of water in the world, with an area of 143,244 square miles. That's big! Sophia liked this because it reminds us of Christ's vast love for us.
Caspian also comes from the Latin term Caspi, which means white.  This is an excellent reminder of the debt Christ paid for us on the cross.  He died on the cross to take our sins and wash us white as snow.
"Come now, let us reason together, says the Lord; though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be white as snow: though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool."
So, because of the meaning the word Caspian has for us, we proudly call ourselves Caspian Canine—a place where all are welcome!

Our Facility

Caspian Canine is lucky enough to run off and train at a beautiful property just north of Hagerstown, Indiana. We are on sixty-three beautiful acres, where the kennel tech lives on-site. We have lots of open lands and wooded areas. Our facility is the perfect training area for generalization and environmental socialization.
Our facility has indoor and outdoor kenneling to keep all the dogs comfortable and happy.  We also ensure cameras running at all times so we have the maximum security possible to keep your precious fur baby safe!

When the weather gets nasty, we have a few different options. We have some other indoor solutions for private lessons and board and train. We also like to go to pet-friendly stores such as Tractor Supply, Hobby Lobby, Home Depot, Pet Smart, Rural King, etc. When holding larger Group Classes, we contact local community centers that gladly host us.
